Quartz lamps are a type of gas-discharge lamps with a mercury phosphor, a source of ultraviolet radiation. They are made of quartz glass, which transmits the ultraviolet spectrum. Quartz glass, unlike uviol, which is used in germicidal lamps, does not filter ozone-forming waves. Therefore, the use of quartz lamps is accompanied by the active production of ozone, which enhances the disinfecting effect of ultraviolet radiation, but in high concentrations is dangerous to human health. There is an ozone-free variety of quartz lamps, in which the glass is doped with titanium dioxide and, thanks to this additive, absorbs waves of 185 nm (ozone-forming).

What are quartz lamps used for?

UV radiation has a pronounced bactericidal effect, so it is used to disinfect rooms, air and surfaces, to destroy pathogenic microflora in the human body. Also, in certain doses, it has a beneficial effect on health, increases resistance to infections, has an anti-inflammatory effect, stimulates metabolic processes, regeneration and wound healing, and improves skin condition. Ultraviolet, which emit artificial sources (quartz lamps), can compensate for the lack of sunlight.

Taking into account the action of UV radiation, quartz lamps are used as part of open and closed irradiators of different power and design:

  • for quartzization (disinfection) of premises, mainly in medical, children's institutions, as well as at home;
  • for general, local and intracavitary irradiation in a number of inflammatory diseases of the respiratory organs, oral cavity, joints, injuries, skin diseases;
  • to stimulate the production of vitamin D in the body, prevent rickets, treat its consequences;
  • to provide a sufficient amount of ultraviolet light for plants and young animals in greenhouses, greenhouses, farms, zoos, nurseries.

Quartzization of the room

For quartzization of premises in institutions, powerful irradiators with an open case are used; during their operation, safety rules must be observed:

  • during the operation of such an irradiator, you cannot look at the lamp;
  • you can stay in the room for a short time, at the moment of turning on / off the irradiator, and only in protective glasses;
  • during the quartzing of the cabinet outside, an annunciator is turned on or a warning sign is posted;
  • upon completion, it is necessary to ventilate for 15-30 minutes to remove excess ozone, only after that you can go inside.

In medical institutions, quartzization of premises is carried out according to the schedule, after wet cleaning. After the current cleaning, the irradiator is turned on for 30 minutes, after the general cleaning - for 2 hours. Current cleaning and half-hour quartzization is carried out twice a day, the frequency of general cleaning depends on the purpose of the premises.

Quartz apartment

When quartzing an apartment, all rooms are sequentially processed. At the time of operation of the irradiator, there should not be people, pets in the room, it is also desirable to take out indoor plants. It is better to install the irradiator in the center so that the rays cover the entire space. The rules are the same as in institutions, but household irradiators of lower power are used, the duration of the procedure is 10-30 minutes. Ventilation is also mandatory, unless an ozone-free lamp is used. The frequency of quartzization of apartments, residential premises:

  • for preventive purposes - 1-2 times a week;
  • during epidemics of influenza, acute respiratory infections, when the patient is at home, the carrier of the infection - daily.

How to choose a quartz lamp

First of all, you need to pay attention to the purpose of the irradiator - devices of various types and designs are used to disinfect rooms, a wide range of physiotherapy procedures and compensate for ultraviolet deficiency. Although there are multifunctional models, you need to carefully study the instructions. The second point is the scope. Most quartz crystals are suitable for use in institutions and at home, but there are medical equipment exclusively for professional use and low-power household appliances with limited functionality.

For general irradiation, floor models of physiotherapy irradiators with a reflector and an adjustable stand are suitable. For intracavitary, desktop devices with special nozzles - tubes are needed. For local exposure to the skin, you can use both floor and some models of desktop irradiators, it is good if a damper is included in the kit to control the treatment area.

Important characteristics when choosing quartzizers for rooms are the power of the device, the processing area, the volume of disinfected air. For domestic use, ozone-free lamps are preferable. In institutions, stationary models are usually used; portable models are suitable for the home.

Indications for use

The exact list of indications is given in the instructions for a specific physiotherapy apparatus, they may vary depending on the con
